Joomla Packages Core 1.5
Our Core Package is built off of the latest version of Joomla, using its 1.5 framework (opposed to 1.0). We've made some edits to the core of the system to make it cleaner and more user friendly. As this package matures you'll find more of these edits throughout the package as we are always trying to improve on our last version (but truthfully it is hard to improve on Joomla as it is already such a great system).
Administrator Header
The first thing you might notice is the Administrative interface upgrade. We felt that the normal black header bar was much to dominant and pulled the eye away from the important menu navigation. It may sound stupid, but the eye is a tricky thing, the web industry is focused on the eye and where it goes on a page and so are we. Hence, the new white gel header. If it doesn't help the eye, well, then it's just dang pretty.
Component Menu
One of the most bothersome things about the Joomla Administrator interface is that it is perfectly organized at the top level navigation, content is separated from menus and components, etc, but once you drill down into the component submenu it is a free for all. We have many clients who like to install components to try out but never remove the ones they don't use because after a while things just get so cluttered in the Components submenu that they forget what they installed and they don't want to delete the package components or worse yet Standard Joomla components. Worry no longer, finally, a new organized Components menu system, with Standard Joomla and Joomla Packages separated. Anything you install will show up normal, directly under Components, give it a whirl.
Control Panel and Quick Buttons
While we would like to go on about the features of our packages, we know you want to get started, so we'll just talk about one last feature, Quick Buttons. Our custom quick buttons are a feature of the "Custom Quick Icons" component which you can freely edit yourself. We added four really important informational access point buttons across the top, getting started video tour, a link to Joomla Packages faqs, a link to Joomla Learning Clinics, and a link to Package Updates, all of which will open in your administrator, no new windows, no page reload, just a little Ajax. We also kept some important Standard Joomla access buttons, new articles, frontpage manager, media manager, and user manager. Finally we added, four buttons to essential tasks such as backing up the system, module management, SEF management, and RSS newsfeed managment.
